Serbian Army Chief of Staff Genera Milan Mojsilovic has said that by the end of June, an assessment and a proposal for reinstating compulsory military service would be submitted to the supreme commander and president, Aleksandar Vucic. He added that the proposal would include a model for compulsory service and dynamic plans for creating conditions for conscription activation.

“The Serbian Army General Staff has devised several potential models for military service, including clearly stated advantages and downsides and a comparative analysis relying on predefined criteria, based on which an optimal model has been chosen,” Mojsilovic told the April 23 issue of Belgrade Politika on the occasion of the Serbian Armed Forces Day, celebrated on April 23.

He stressed that reintroduction of compulsory military service in Serbia required a broad consensus in the society as, he noted, this was not solely a military issue.

Speaking about Kosovo and Metohija, he described the security situation there as extremely sensitive.

“The ignorance of reached agreements and the resolve of the interim administration in Pristina to impose solutions without taking into account the opinion and stances of Belgrade and primarily of the Serbs living in Kosovo and Metohija, combined with Pristina’s unilateral actions, represent a constant source of threats to the security of Serbs,” the Serbian Army chief of staff stressed.
