European Union Special Envoy for the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue Miroslav Lajcak has stated his readiness to host another meeting between Belgrade and Pristina if both sides “demonstrate genuine willingness to reach an agreement.”
In a May 19 evening post on Facebook detailing his activities for the past week, the envoy mentioned hosting the chief negotiators of Kosovo and Serbia for what he sees “as the final round of discussions” on the Kosovo Central Bank regulation abolishing the use of the dinar.
“Unfortunately, no agreement was reached, and it's unclear how this will impact everyday life of the affected communities in Kosovo. I remain ready to host another meeting on this subject under the condition that the Parties demonstrate genuine willingness to reach an agreement,” Lajcak wrote.
The sit-down he is referring to took place in Brussels on May 15, marking the seventh time Serbia’s and Kosovo’s head negotiators, Petar Petkovic and Besnik Bislimi, met to discuss the repercussions of Kosovo abolishing the dinar, with mediation provided by the European Union. After they – again – failed to reach an agreement, Lajcak expressed his willingness to host another talk should both sides be willing to find a mutually acceptable interim solution – a sentiment he repeated in his latest Facebook post.
