Serbian Minister of Domestic and Foreign Trade Tomislav Momirovic said on June 12 that Japanese companies had invested EUR500 million in Serbia over the past few years, confirming that fresh investments were expected to come and that Serbia and Japan planned to sign an investment protection agreement in the next year and a half.

“We will soon start negotiating an investment protection agreement, and the plan is to sign it soon as well. We want to affirm Serbia more strongly, to make the country easily recognizable across Japanese markets, and to attract more investors. It’s a fantastic country, with many companies, and some have arrived already,” Momirovic said in an interview with the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation (RTS).

The minister has recently visited Japan with a delegation consisting of government officials and business people. It was the first such visit after four decades. Momirovic said that a large business delegation from Japan would be visiting Serbia next October.
