The Belgrade City Assembly re-elected Aleksandar Sapic Belgrade’s new mayor as 64 out of 82 councilors present had voted in his favor.

Sapic has won a second successive term at the helm of Belgrade, having been first elected in 2022.

A majority of all 110 councilors voted in Vesna Vidovic as his deputy, serving her second term as well.

Sapic said he hoped that together with the new city administration, he would justify the trust Belgraders gave him on June 2, dismissing opposition criticism of his work.

The new mayor said there’s a group of individuals, NGOs, independent intellectuals, some media outlets and politicians who believed the city government had not done anything good over the past two years, describing their criticism as arrogance.

Having listed good moves by the city government, including social benefits, free kindergartens and textbooks and English classes for preschoolers, Sapic said he expected Belgrade "to continue to grow faster and more effectively" than all other cities in the region.
