The European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) has announced on Aug. 7 that it’s closely monitoring the security situation in the north and that it will, if necessary, support the Kosovo police in maintaining public order and peace in the event of unrest.

"EULEX remains vigilant and, in accordance with the three-tier security response mechanism in Kosovo, it is ready to support the Kosovo police if necessary and required to contribute to maintaining and improving public order and security in cases of civil unrest," EULEX stated in a response to RTV 21.

The mission noted that, in line with its mandate, it continued to closely monitor the security situation in Kosovo.

"More specifically, to gain insight into the situation, a EULEX police unit, consisting of 105 Polish police officers, conducts mobile reconnaissance patrols 24 hours a day," EULEX said, adding that the security of all communities in Kosovo was their main priority.
