Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti said on Aug. 14 that the announcement that the bridge over the Ibar River in Kosovska Mitrovica would be opened, was not targeted against anyone, especially not against Kosovo's partners.
"Kosovo is a normal state, and its bridges should be open," Kurti said during a session of the Government of Kosovo, adding that he believed the opening of the bridge, dividing the north and south of Kosovska Mitrovica, was "a fair, necessary and beneficial step for everyone."
"We welcomed the preliminary stability assessment reports regarding the bridge, which we immediately shared with the KFOR commander on Aug. 13 in the spirit of consultations and ongoing coordination that we maintain," Kurti said.
The Kosovo prime minister said he would continue consultations and coordination efforts with Kosovo's partners regarding the opening of the Ibar bridge. "The Government of Kosovo and I, as head of government, deeply believe that the freedom of movement and the rule of law on one hand, and peace and security on the other, can coexist, creating the right path for our country, society and state. We will continue consultations and coordination efforts with our partners," said Kurti, failing to set the date for the opening.
