On Sept. 1, a rally staged by the Eko Straza (Eco-Watch) environmental protection organization took place in front of the RTS public service in support of the detained activists fighting against lithium mining in Serbia.
The evening gathering featured speeches by activists who had been questioned and held by the police – with detailed accounts of their experiences – and concluded with the remark that the protest was a success because the RTS had eventually reported on the event.
The speakers called for solidarity with all of the country’s environmental activists, who, it was said, will not cease their efforts, even though the authorities “are playing dirty.”
Protestors carried signs and banners denouncing lithium exploitation, while also demanding that the RTS stop serving the regime and begin reporting nothing but the truth – including the challenges faced by environmentalists.
