Momcilo Trajkovic, the president of the Serbian National Forum with head office in Gracanica, near Pristina, on Sept. 3 said that a delegation of the Serbs living in Kosovo and Metohija was extremely happy with talks with members of the opposition ProgGlas initiative, describing the meeting as “much more than they had expected.”

“We had a meeting with smart, reasonable people who have a vision, who can help us, who offer encouragement to us. They are ready to listen to us, we had asked them about their position on the Kosovo issue and they gladly accepted to discuss the matter. They realize that this issue had to be discussed openly,” Trajkovic told TV Nova S.

“The key question is how to create Serbia’s authentic policy on Kosovo which would be conducted by the people living there, the realistic political forces rather than those imposed from the top state level,” Trajkovic stressed, adding that the Kosovo issue must not serve to hinder democratization process in Serbia.

“So far, all politicians, starting with (Slobodan) Milosevic all the way to the incumbent regime, all of them have used Kosovo to halt democratic processes in Serbia. Yesterday, (on Sept. 2) we said we were ready to participate in solving, not creating a problem. This stand was endorsed, which we consider very useful,” Trajkovic specified.

Also present at the Sept. 2 meeting with members of ProGlas initiative, held behind closed doors, were representatives of the Gracanica-based Serbian National Council of Kosovo and Metohija, and Fatherland, the People’s Movement of Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija headquartered in Kosovska Mitrovica. Trajkovic earlier said that the delegation of Serbs living in Kosovo and Metohija were planning to have meetings in September with representatives of the Serbian opposition and associations and movements concerned with the Kosovo issue.
