On Sept. 11, Israel’s President Isaac Herzog arrived for a one-day visit to Serbia, which he commenced by sitting down with his Serbian counterpart, Aleksandar Vucic. During his stay, Herzog will also speak with other top state officials, participate in an economic forum and meet with representatives of the Jewish community in Belgrade.

Herzog was officially greeted with the highest honors at a welcome ceremony in front of the Palace of Serbia, which included the playing of both countries’ national anthems. Following a one-on-one meeting between the two presidents and a plenary meeting between the countries’ delegations, Herzog will also hold talks with Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic and Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic.

Herzog is the second Israeli head of state to visit Serbia and is doing so in the midst of his country’s war on Hamas in Gaza.

According to a report published in early September by the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN) in collaboration with Israeli newspaper Haaretz, so far this year Serbia has exported EUR23.1 million in munitions to Israel despite U.N. warnings that such trade should be halted due to possible war crimes against Palestinian civilians in Gaza.

The Israeli media have also reported that, following his visit to Belgrade, Herzog will spend the rest of Sept. 11 in Albania, where is set to meet President Bajram Begaj and Prime Minister Edi Rama.
