Serbia is “determined” to advance relations with the U.S. “as a significant partner,” in all fields of mutual interest, Defense Minister Bratislav Gasic stated on Sept. 19 during a meeting with the commander of the National Guard of Ohio, Major General John Harris.

Gasic assessed during the meeting in Belgrade that a powerful contribution to the two countries’ relations was coming from the “successful cooperation” between the Army of Serbia and the National Guard of Ohio, which has been going on for 18 years now within the State Partnership Program.

The Defense Ministry quoted Gasic as saying that cooperation with the National Guard of Ohio strengthened the operative capability of the Army of Serbia and elevated the degree of inter-operability for its participation in peace operations around the world.

General Harris described the cooperation as exceptionally successful and expressed commitment to its further advancement. He said that he held the professionalism of the Army of Serbia’s members in high regard and that there was visible “great progress in the level of capability and equipping” of the Army of Serbia.
