The vice-president of the Serbia Center (SRCE) party, Tijana Peric Diligenski, assessed on Jan. 15 that the advisory referendum on the impeachment of the president was an unconstitutional category and that its purpose was to divert attention from the tragedy in Novi Sad.
As announced by the party, she said in an interview to TV Nova that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic – allegedly one of the most successful students of the Faculty of Law – had shown that he did not know the Constitution. “He should return to classes, starting from the first year, to refresh his memory. What he is offering is an unconstitutional category. Why had he not asked for a referendum when he accepted the Brussels and Ohrid agreements? The Constitution enables him to resign and he could to that,” she stated.
Peric Diligenski added that the opposition had submitted a motion for a confidence vote to the government, but Speaker Ana Brnabic did not place it on parliamentary agenda, announcing instead the alleged debate on the referendum.
“I believe the holding of the (parliamentary) session does not suit them, because they fear a public debate. Nothing should be changed before the forming of a transitional government that would enable fair and free elections,” she stated, adding that the attack on the students was a show of powerlessness and nervousness, as well as of “the regime’s repression” that is dehumanizing anyone who opposes it.
