Democratic Party leader Srdjan Milivojevic on Feb. 4 said that continuing protests of citizens along with a general strike was the only way out of the ongoing deep social crisis in Serbia.
In a written statement, Milivojevic said that the citizens would “force” the incumbent regime to “acknowledge its responsibility for the crime in Novi Sad” and endorse the demands of the protesting students.
“We call on all citizens of Serbia to, in accordance with our nation’s freedom- loving tradition, stand uncompromisingly in defense of our Constitution and laws, and we also encourage the police, prosecutors, courts, and all other institutions which have been undermined by the one who wields absolute power to stand by the angered citizens in order to stop the intention of the unbridled regime to provoke wide-scale conflicts using provocations, attacks and force,” it is said in the statement.
