An interim government did not mean assuming power outside elections, but it was rather a path leading to holding an election and a solution to the demands of the protesting students, Miroslav Aleksic, the leader of the opposition People’s Movement of Serbia, said on Feb. 11.
Speaking to Zrenjanin-based KTV, Aleksic said that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic had been evading a provisional leadership, although, he said, it was the only way out of the ongoing crisis.
“We are ready to discuss the concept of an interim government exclusively comprising of experts, which shall be discussed by the stakeholders. Anyone who will assume any post will have to be fully competent with relevant expertise and be ready to respond to challenges that may arise over the period of 12 months. The goal is to break the deadlock,” Aleksic specified.
Vucic has repeatedly said he would never accept the concept of a provisional government, noting that a snap election would be a far more realistic solution.
