Democratic Party vice president Nebojsa Novakovic said on Feb. 12 that all the problems of the ongoing crisis in Serbia and the way to solve them were contained in the clearly defined student demands, which he said reflected the attitudes of all social groups and segments desiring fundamental change.
"That change begins with the necessary arrest and then prosecution of those responsible for the overhang collapse and responsible at the same time for the reconstruction project being overpaid several times over," Novakovic said, referencing the deaths of 15 people in the collapse of a concrete canopy at the Novi Sad railway station on Nov. 1, 2024, which has sparked unflagging protests by university students and other citizens. He called for any future action by parties, individuals, unions and others to be guided solely by contributing to the fulfilment of the demands.
"Only after the student demands are met will it be possible and desirable to consider other solutions and forms of struggle with a view to achieving ultimate justice and ultimate liberation," Novakovic said.
