On Feb. 19, police began investigating over 50 companies across Serbia per orders of the Special Anti-Corruption Division of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office, BETA was told at this institution.
The cases are being led by the Tax Administration and the Criminal Police Directorate as part of an operation to uncover and prosecute domestic criminal corruption.
The 50+ new investigations continue the recent days-long crackdown on corruption that has so far resulted in dozens of arrests. Certain circles consider this the regime’s attempt to deflect attention from the university student protests, which have been going on for months in response to the 15 deaths caused by the Nov. 1, 2024 accident at Novi Sad’s central railway station.
