Milos Vucevic (BETAPHOTO/MILOS MISKOV)
Serbian MPs on March 19 accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Milos Vucevic.
Vucevic resigned on Feb. 28, after an assault on university students in Novi Sad left one victim with serious injuries. The acknowledgement of his resignation triggers a 30-day deadline to pick a new cabinet, during which time Serbia will have a caretaker government.
If a new government is not formed within that time, the president of the country must disband the parliament and call an extraordinary parliamentary election.
In the same session, the parliament appointed Ivan Nikolic, science fellow at the Institute of Economics, chairman of the National Bank of Serbia council after he was put forward by the Aleksandar Vucic - Serbia Must Not Stop caucus. The parliament also appointed members of the Council proposed by the same caucus -- Nebojsa Savic, Ana Jovanovic and Bosko Vidakovic, and Nikola Gradojevic, put forward by the Ivica Dacic - Socialist Party of Serbia caucus.
