Radomir Lazovic (BETAPHOTO/MILOS MISKOV)
Ahead of a meeting with EU Enlargement Commissioner Mart Kos in Belgrade, co-leader of the opposition Green-Left Front Radomir Lazovic has said he is expecting from the EU to stand behind its values, instead of offering support to Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
“We expect the EU to stand behind its values, the rule of law, the establishment of democratic institutions, and the prosecution of those responsible for corruption, which is what students and citizens have been fighting for, instead of supporting the autocratic ruler - Aleksandar Vucic.” Lazovic has told the Belgrade daily Danas.
Lazovic, who will together with Biljana Djordjevic, another Green-Left Front co-president, meet with Kos in Belgrade on April 30, said he would request from the EU commissioner to exert pressure on the Serbian Progressive Party for to ensure that malfeasance observed during the previous election of members of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM) would not reoccur.
Lazovic also said he would also bring before the EU enlargement commissioner the issue of the electoral roll, which he claimed was the crucial problem, because “the Progressives are trying to keep the door open for manipulation (with votes).”
In Belgrade on April 29, Martka Kos is scheduled to meet with President Aleksandar Vucic, Prime Minister Djuro Macut and Parliament speaker Ana Brnabic.
