Serbian Minister of Interior Affairs and leader of the Socialist Party of Serbia Ivica Dacic said on May 21 that since a new cabinet has been formed and has a stable parliamentary majority there are no grounds whatsoever to discuss the need for snap elections.
“It is such an important topic for them, among other things, so they can maintain tensions, so they have a topic to speak about,” Dacic told Pink TV with regards to the university students’ demands for an extraordinary parliamentary election. Calling an election is not only a matter of the student plenums’ “wishful thinking,” Dacic insisted, adding that the protesting students do not understand what it means to organize and participate in a vote.
According to him, “Serbia needs political stability, peace, and a wide consensus on [its] basic social goals.” There are many difficult issues to be faced, such as the happenings in Republika Srpska, Dacic explained.
