Jovo Bakic (MEDIJA CENTAR BEOGRAD)
The university student ticket for snap parliamentary elections is practically complete and it is time to announce at least the top dozen candidates, University of Belgrade School of Philosophy Professor Jovo Bakic said on Sept. 18.
“These people could speak with the representatives of various countries but also with the domestic public and citizens. Yes, they will be subject to a smear-campaign by pro-regime media, but that is par for the course. Whoever accepted candidacy must be ready for that,” Bakic told the Vreme weekly.
In his opinion, a good solution for the elections protestors have been demanding for months would be two truly oppositional tickets: one put together by the university students, the other partisan, on condition that they not undermine one another.
The professor concluded by stating that President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic’s unwillingness to call early elections stems from “an enormous fear” that he will be incarcerated in their wake.i Sad Railway Station accident that killed 16 people and sparked the protest movement.
