European Democrats
Commenting on a military parade in Belgrade, the European Democratic Party pointed out in a Sept. 21 statement the erosion of democracy in Serbia and called on Europe to acknowledge it for its own security and the preservation of its values.
In a post on the X social media platform, the European Democrats said that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic "staged a military parade surrounded by delegations from Russia, China and the Arab world" on Sept. 20, and that the message was clear -- "invest in weapons, flaunt military might, play geopolitics on multiple fronts."
The message, titled Vucic's Serbia: Parade of Arms, not Democracy, the European Democrats said that, "Meanwhile, democracy, the rule of law and fundamental freedoms are eroded by corruption and the repression of students who dare to protest." "The EU accession process is kept artificially alive while authoritarian drift becomes reality," read the post of the party, which belongs to the liberal Renew Europe Group in the European Parliament.
