After all of the votes in Kosovo’s snap parliamentary elections were counted, the Self-Determination Movement was found to have won 486,994 votes, or 51.11%, giving it 57 seats in the Kosovo Assembly, the authorities in Pristina announced on Jan. 9.

The Movement will only need to establish ties with parties representing minority communities to secure a 61-seat majority required to constitute a new legislature and form a new cabinet. The Self-Determination was the only party to increase its representation compared to the Feb. 9 elections, and has achieved the best result recorded in Kosovo parliamentary elections since 1999.

The Democratic Party of Kosovo was the runner-up with 22 seats with 20.19% of the vote. Compared to the previous Feb. 9 elections, the party lost two seats. The Democratic League of Kosovo was the biggest loser in the Dec. 28 election, dropping from 20 to 15 seats, with 13.23% of the vote.

The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo secured six seats, with 5.5% of the vote. The Serb Ticket won nine seats, while the party For Freedom, Justice and Survival won one seat, filling the quota of 10 seats reserved for the Serb community.
