Djuro Macut (BETAPHOTO/Serbian Government/Slobodan Miljevic)
Serbia would have to consider a possible cabinet reshuffle this spring, Prime Minister Djuro Macut said on Jan. 27.
“We have to get out of our offices and be able to follow the situation on the ground. We have ministers who often make field visits, and also those who do it less frequently, believing that their work is more office-based,” Macut told state public broadcaster RTS.
Macut, who took over as prime minister on April 16 last year, together with has cabinet minister, has lately faced harsh criticism by President Aleksandar Vucic, who has accused the ministers of inactivity, sluggishness and inefficiency, in a recent live TV broadcast of a Government session.
Commenting on carriers’ blockades of cargo terminals at border crossing with the Schengen Area, Macut said it was the consequence of the lack of understanding and inflexibility of the Brussels administration.
“Last week, I talked with the European Union ambassador in Belgrade, asking for an urgent meeting. We hope to see some kind of exemptions to the rules, or at least a temporary solution for these people, which would not involve rigid day counting (permitted duration of stay in the EU). We have tabled some good ideas, including tracking hours rather than entry/exit days,” Macut said.
