Owing to the rebellion started by the student movement, as the most notable social rebel movement in modern history, Serbian society is undoubtedly better, there has been emancipation and people have massively been released from fear, but at the same time we have received a much worse state, historian Milivoj Beslin has said.
At a rostrum in Novi Sad dubbed, "Nationalism, Fascism, Liberation, Where Now with the Protests?," he said that today the most pressing questions were was this rebel emancipatory movement dying out or assuming a new form as well was the regime closing its ranks and would it succeed in restoring some of its lost legitimacy.
"In this attempt to show that they have returned to the way they were, they are dialing up repressive measures which are now truly turning into what is known as state terrorism. We see that this is still happening selectively, they are carefully choosing which institutions and individuals to target, who are the journalists, attorneys, professors, scientists that they are going to arrest and prosecute, threaten, and lay off, and leave jobless," Beslin said.
