Rector Vladan Djokic (BETAPHOTO/MILAN OBRADOVIC)
School of Philosophy professor Oliver Toskovic said on May 7 that Belgrade University rector Vladan Djokic "is a qualified man, experienced in management, peaceable, constructive, but with a clear stance."
"In a situation in which repression and autocracy are growing in Serbia, it is somewhat an obligation for citizens to actively participate in politics, and so this is expected of the rector," Toskovic told the Vreme weekly. He said that "the rector deals in politics by virtue of his position, i.e. managing the university."
He said that "with the help of certain political groups" Djokic should "take up state politics." "This would be good for all of us too," Toskovic said.
Toskovic said that it is maybe not easy for Djokic to separate the roles of rector and possible candidate for the highest offices when the date and candidates are unknown and as the election campaign seems to be starting. He added that Toskovic has yet to experience a sequence of unpleasant things in his private life as well - "He is already receiving the regime's 'warm welcome treatment.'"
