Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met on July 3 with Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles Fernandez and discussed advancing military technical cooperation, exchanging experiences and building stronger ties between the two countries' institutions.

In an Instagram post, Vucic said the subjects at the meeting in Belgrade included further strengthening cooperation between Spain and Serbia in defense and security, and current events of mutual interest in the region and Europe.

The Spanish minister also met with her Serbian counterpart Bratislav Gasic. The two ministers discussed cooperation in defense and the political and security landscape. The Spanish defense minister said relations between the two countries rested on mutual respect, trust and long-lasting cooperation, especially within the UNIFIL peacekeeping mission in Lebanon, and added that Spain highly valued the professionalism and dedication of Army of Serbia members in international operations.

The family of Milovan Jovanovic, who was killed while serving in the U.N. peacekeeping mission in Lebanon early in June and decorated posthumously, received his Serbian and Spanish medals in Belgrade on July 3. Vucic and Robles Fernandez presented Jovanovic's family with the Order of Karadjordje's Star of the first degree and the Spanish Cross of Military Merit on a yellow ribbon.
