National Assembly of Serbia (BETAPHOTO/National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia/Pedja Vuckovic)

On July 6, the National Assembly of Serbia commenced an extraordinary sitting with 18 agenda items, including yet another electoral law: a bill amending the Law on Financing Political Activity.

Just like the previous amendments to electoral laws made to comply with the recommendations of the OSCE’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), the latest changes were proposed by ruling Serbian Progressive Party MP Miroslav Petrasinovic.

The agenda for parliament’s eighth extraordinary sitting also includes a proposal for the interpretation of the Law on Digital Media, particularly the articles pertaining to the resignation of council members of the Digital Media Authority (REM).

As previously announced at a meeting of the parliamentary committee for culture and information, the law will be interpreted so as to invalidate the November 2025 resignations of four elected council members because the resignations were handed in prior to the members assuming duty.

This would open the door for said members to resume their positions in the council, which would then have eight positions filled and elect its final, ninth member in the near future.

The Assembly’s agenda for the day entails discussions of another ten bills. All 18 items will be debated simultaneously, with the amendments being discussed immediately following the general debate.
