WizzAir
Representatives of Hungarian airline Wizz Air submitted a petition with more than 21,000 signatures to the Civil Aviation Directorate on July 13, in a bid to protect the company’s base and operations in the Serbian capital, urging a dialogue with the relevant state institutions.
“We are asking for Wizz Air to be allowed to continue operating in Belgrade without disruption, threaten after 15 active years in Belgrade,” said Nevena Todorovic, manager of Wizz Air’s cabin crew base in Belgrade.
The Wiss Air representative went on to say that the company wanted to continue operating in Belgrade, but that 200 employees could lose their jobs because of amendments to the rulebook governing permits for foreign air carriers providing international public air transport services to and from Serbia. Under the amended rulebook, companies registered in the European Union (EU) would no longer be allowed to begin and end their flights in Belgrade.
The Civil Aviation Directorate previously said that the amendments, due to take effect in November 2026, did not restrict traffic rights but regulated a framework applied equally to all airlines operating on the Serbian market.
