Milos Jovanovic, the president of New Democratic Party of Serbia, said on July 15 that the government can find no good presidential candidates and that the much bigger question is who will be the opposition candidate by whom everyone could stand.
"That of course involves everyone sitting down and reaching agreement. I think that is the only sensible way," Jovanovic told the Danas daily.
Danas reported that, after sitting Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced he may resign, there are speculations that the government may put forward Constitutional Court president Vladan Petrov, Belgrade Mayor Aleksandar Sapic, Minister of Labor, Employment, Veterans' and Social Affairs Milica Djurdjevic Stamenkovski or even Interior Minister Ivica Dacic for president, but Jovanovic told the daily he is not thinking about the regime's candidate because that is "their business."
Vucic announced that he may step down soon so presidential and parliamentary elections could be held, specifying that the parliamentary vote would take place first and that he may be in the running for prime minister, as he may not run for a third presidential term.
