Police, Army, Students Rally for Over Four Hours in Belgrade, on April 8
The number of cities and towns in Serbia where protests have been held at least once since Nov. 1, 2024, in response to the deaths of 15 people at the just reconstructed Novi Sad Railway Station, has risen to 151 over the weekend, the Public Gatherings Archive reports.
Over the weekend, the largest protest was held in Nis, attended by approximately 15,000 citizens. According to the Archive, given the population size, the rally in Nis is proportionally equivalent to a gathering of around 114,000 people in Belgrade.
A rally held in Cacak on Jan. 27 brought together around 6,300 protesters, and is equivalent to a Belgrade rally of 125,000 people. A rally held in Pancevo the day before drew about 5,500 people, comparable to a gathering of around 88,000 people in the capital.
A Jan. 26 rally in Subotica brought together approximately 4,500 citizens, equivalent to Belgrade’s crowd of about 66,000. The day before, around 2,000 people joined a protest rally in Gornji Milanovac, which when the population size of the Serbian town and Belgrade is compared, would be similar to a gathering of about 118,000 people in the capital.
