Members of the 16th Croatian contingent within NATO forces in Poland were not under threat during the incursion by Russian drones and did not take part in their downing, the Croatian Ministry of Defense announced on Sept. 10.
“Members of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia perform their regular and usual duties, they are not on high alert, they are not included in the current events and are not under threat,” it was declared in the announcement. The ministry explained that members of the 16th Croatian contingent within NATO forces in Poland were more than 300 kilometers away from the incident location and had in no way been included in the current events.
Croatian President Zoran Milanovic stated in comment of the incident in Poland that these were dark times and that one should be cautious. “I do not want to dramatize, but one should be cautious. It is a proxy war between America and Russia and they should settle it,” Milanovic said, recollecting that a drone fell near a students’ dormitory in Zagreb, which has been forgotten since.
The operative command of the Army of Poland announced on Sept. 10 that the operation in which Polish and allied forces downed Russian drones during an attack on Ukraine was “complete.” This was the first time Russian drones violated Polish airspace in such numbers.
