The Montenegrin government will, by changing its economic citizenship program, enable highly qualified staff to obtain Montenegrin citizenship.

That will particularly pertain to the fields of science and technology, Minister of Economic Development Jakov Milatovic has announced.

Website Investitor quoted Milatovic as saying that the existing economic citizenship program would be analyzed and that the existing model would be modified.

The second model, as he put it, would entail attracting knowledge and skills, i.e. human capital, which will produce new capital, or a model that will entail a combination thereof, with the priority being attracting highly qualified staff and knowledge, website B92 reports.

The three-year program for obtaining Montenegrin citizenship through investing, launched by former prime minister Dusko Markovic's cabinet, started on Jan. 1, 2019 and envisages the issuing of up to 2,000 passports.
