Serbia and the French national power utility EDF signed on April 8 a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a framework for long-term bilateral talks in the areas of energy transition and low-carbon technologies.

The agreement was signed in Paris by Serbian Finance Minister Sinisa Mali and EDF's CEO Luc Remont. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic attended the signing ceremony as well.

The memorandum creates conditions for a strategic partnership with EDF in evaluating potentials for the development of a civil nuclear program in Serbia, while also providing support for the development of professional staff and the exchange of technical knowledge.

The memorandum provides for cooperation in developing energy storage solutions, batteries and green hydrogen in the first place, as well as models for the efficient use of produced energy.

EDF has expressed interest in collaborating with Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) national power utility in building new hydroelectric plants, and revitalizing the existing ones. The French company is also interested in the development of hydropower plants of regional interest, in order to support Serbia's energy security.
