Former minister Nenad Popovic, who is president of the nationalist Serbian People’s Party and a businessman, found himself targeted by U.S. sanctions last week for using his connections in Russia’s state leadership for business. Popovic, who holds a PhD in economics and is a known Russophile, is one in a series of figures linked to Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic who have been placed on the U.S.’s blacklist in the past two years.
