CRTA organization program director Rasa Nedeljkov called on March 17 a Republican Electoral Commission decision to cancel the election campaign responsible as it was impossible to organize elections according to democratic standards in a state of emergency in which human and civil rights could be limited.

"This measure will contribute to lowering the risk to the health and lives of Serbia's citizens," Nedeljkov told the Autonomija website.

He announced that during the state of emergency, CRTA would continue to monitor national broadcasters and social networks. He added that he expected TV stations not to air campaign material in accordance with the Republican Electoral Commission's decision.

"We are now returning to the stage prior to the official commencement of the campaign, and this is how we as an observer mission are acting," Nedeljkov said.

According to him, after the state of emergency is lifted, a minimum of 30 to 45 days would be sufficient for a campaign. "However, everything will absolutely depend on how our society is going to look like and what we will go through in the coming weeks. I think that this is something that is of the highest importance right now," Nedeljkov said.
