Epidemiologist Predrag Kon said on July 30 that the epidemiological situation in Serbia has been stabilized, albeit with high numbers of infected, adding that an improvement “can be sensed.”

Kon told Pink TV that it is good that the number of those with positive PCR has dropped to eight percent of the total number of people tested, recalling that only a few days before that figure was between 20 and 30 percent.

He believes that flattening the curve will go slower this time, because “we can’t expect face masks to slow down an epidemic the way that the lockdown during the state of emergency did.”

Clarifying his earlier statement about “Belgrade being a ticking bomb,” Kon said that “Belgrade never had the highest number of active cases per capita, but being a huge city, it will always be a potential contagion hotbed.”

At the moment, according to Kon, the most critical situation is in Bujanovac and the Pcinja District as a whole, but it is easier to control the epidemic in smaller areas, he added.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on July 30 that the COVID-19 situation is being stabilized, adding that he expects that Serbia will acquire a vaccine before December ends. He reiterated that Serbia’s goal is not to conceal information but to treat people and that when it comes to the number of tests run, Serbia is the fifth in Europe.
