Dr. Predrag Kon, an epidemiologist and member of the Serbian COVID-19 Crisis Headquarters, has called on the citizens of Belgrade to avoid crowds and gatherings, and act as if “a 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew has been declared,” in the following two weeks.

In an announcement, entitled “A special plea to Belgrade citizens,” which was posted on Facebook on Nov. 2, Kon said that he is expecting the “third wave” to peak next week.

“During this period, avoid crowds and gatherings. Act as if a 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew has been declared. And if you have to leave the house… always wear protective masks, especially indoors. All the best!” he wrote.

Another member of the Crisis Headquarters, immunologist Srdja Jankovic, also spoke out on Nov. 2, saying that the numbers of coronavirus cases in Serbia clearly point to the epidemic flaring up. He believes that the “steep rise” must be curbed so that the healthcare system does not get overtaxed.

According to the official data from Nov. 1, 1,449 people in Serbia have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and six have passed away from the virus-related complications. Since the beginning of the epidemic, 48,403 confirmed cases and 826 deaths have been officially reported.
