Infectologist Mijomir Pelemis, a member of the COVID-19 Crisis Headquarters, has said that the relevant authorities should not wait 14 days to assess the effects of the measures that had already been introduced.

“Way before December 1, say November 19 or 20, we have to analyze not the effects the measures are having but the epidemiological situation, and if there is no improvement, we should immediately introduce stricter measures,” Pelemis said for the Nov. 19 issue of the Vecerenje Novosti daily.

According to the paper, stricter measures would simply shorter work hours for shops, bars, cafés and restaurants, working from home, limiting the number of passengers on public transport and increasing the physical distance. This would mean that owners of cafes and similar places would have to ensure that there is more than four square meters per customer or patron.

“COVID-19 is equally dangerous to all generations, regardless of gender, and the only difference is in the outcome of the disease. Anyone can get infected, and anyone who is infected may die from complications. We have had young people die from coronavirus – luckily no children – but reports from the U.S. show that it proved fatal for over 100 youngsters,” Pelemis warned.
