Ivan Divac, head of the Belgrade municipal police, said on Feb. 26 that officers were patrolling all hospitality venues where people assembled to make sure they were following all epidemiological measures against the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Divac told the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation that no-one was safe from inspections and fines. "Absolutely no-one is protected. We've closed down the biggest of hospitality venues," he said.
He called on individuals and the media to report any knowledge of parties with high numbers of guests to the municipal police. "I urge everyone to be responsible," Divac said.
According to media reports, at its most recent session, on Feb. 26, the COVID Crisis Headquarters adopted stricter measures in response to rising COVID infection rates. The medical members of the Crisis Headquarters had said ahead of the meeting that they would advocate stronger measures.
