Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said on April 2, after a number of vaccination opponents were taken into custody by police, that people must not trifle with vaccination and spread lies that could undermine immunization in Serbia.
"That's something that could even cost some citizens their lives. If just one person who was considering getting vaccinated heard those lies and held back, got infected and died, that's a crime," Brnabic told Pink TV.
Anti-vaccine activists protested in downtown Belgrade late on April 1 over the police interrogation of Jovana Stojkovic, a doctor, whom the media describe as the "leader of the anti-vaxxers."
The special prosecutor's office for high-technology crime has interviewed four persons suspected of promoting false claims about vaccines, which have "led to public alarm."
All individuals were released after being interviewed, while the prosecutor's office asked the Belgrade Higher Court to issue restraining orders banning them from meeting and communicating.
