A member of the European Parliament, Viola von Cramon-Taubadel, stated in Belgrade on Oct. 28 that the European Commission's (EC) report about Serbia's progress in the accession process contained a lot of criticism, but also a positive tone, due to a tendency "to give something to the Serbian president ahead of the elections."
"(The report) bears the signature of a Hungarian commissioner (European enlargement commissioner Oliver Varhelyi) and, as I said earlier there is a tendency to give something to the Serbian president (Aleksandar Vucic) ahead of the elections, which is normal and okay, but that's not the job of the Commission," she told reporters, assessing that the report still had a lot of critical points and that it was realistic.
"If you have critical remarks about the current situation, how can you in the end have the idea about opening clusters? We have to discuss this in the forthcoming weeks. I see a lot of question marks and skepticism among my colleagues in the parliament," she added. She stated that the authorities' attitude towards the media that are not inclined towards the government was unacceptable, as well as towards anyone with a different opinion.
To the question about the possible reaching of an agreement between Belgrade and Pristina, she replied that the situation in the dialogue depended solely on Serbia and Kosovo, but that she expected no progress in that regard before the elections in Serbia.
