On Feb. 11, Aleksandar Vulin, the president of the Movement of Socialists, stated that "in the entire Serb world" there is no better candidate for president of Serbia than Aleksandar Vucic.
During an interview for Pink TV, Vulin said that he and incumbent President Vucic held a meeting in the evening of Feb. 10, arranging the details of further collaboration between their parties, the Movement of Socialists and the Serbian Progressive Party, respectively.
"Vucic is the only guarantee that Serbia will continue its policies of military neutrality, of protecting Serbs regardless of where they live, and of economic development. Vucic is the only one who can stop 'NATO general and deserter' Ponos from leading Serbia into NATO [membership]," Vulin said, alluding to oppositional candidate Zdravko Ponos's alleged pro-NATO stance as well as to the rumors that Ponos, a Serb from Croatia, fled the 1990s conflict while his compatriots fought for independence.
Vulin, the incumbent minister of internal affairs, went on to say that, should Vucic not run as the Progressive party presidential candidate, the Movement of Socialists would put forth its own. However, Vulin explained, the only thing that could stop Vucic from running is "if the powers that be crush the Progressive party and manage to derail it from the policies Vucic has built and adhered to all these years."
