Mila Popovic, the president of the Freedom and Justice Party's Belgrade chapter and a member of the team surrounding Vladeta Jankovic, the opposition's candidate for mayor of the Serbian capital, has said that the greatest challenge in the upcoming elections will be to convince the people that the regime can be overthrown and that they hold the power of change.
"If 900,000 people come out to vote in Belgrade, we will have succeeded and shall free Belgrade of this parasitic government. Challenges exist to be overcome, and since we speak to hundreds of citizens daily, it is clear that more and more people are aware of everything taking place in Belgrade, of all the bad the government is doing," Popovic told the Feb. 28 edition of the Nova daily.
According to her, the opposition already has enough electoral observers -- or, as they are being called, "guards of the people's will" -- to ensure that no votes will be stolen.
"A lot of courageous people have volunteered to contribute in this way to the fight against [the current] regime. This does not mean that the regime won't try something, they are constantly trying to cheat, but we've been training observers for months in how to recognize this and how to react [to it]," Popovic concluded.
