Vladeta Jankovic, who ran for Belgrade mayor as a candidate of the United for the Victory of Serbia coalition in the April 3 vote, said on April 5, that the opposition had “very seriously” shaken Serbian Progressive Party’s power in the capital city.
Jankovic said that “it is not over yet” in terms of the results of the Belgrade local elections and formation of a majority in the Belgrade City assembly. “Our expectations might have been too high, I had the approach that a victory in Belgrade was realistic. The opposition in Belgrade received more than 50 percent of the ballots which is an important difference, but the election system has punished us,” Jankovic told TV N1.
Dobrica Veselinovic, a candidate for Belgrade mayor of the We Must coalition, has said “it is certain” that the Progressives did not have a majority in Belgrade.
