Serbian Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovic and Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro met in Caracas on Aug. 12 to discuss strengthening friendly ties between the two states.
The Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that Selakovic met Maduro at the end of his visit to Venezuela, to whom he passed on Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic's regards. Selakovic underlined the importance of the visit, as it was conducted the same year the two states celebrate the 140th anniversary of diplomatic ties.
Minister Selakovic said that mutual respect for the principles of international law, non-interference in the internal affairs of states and the right to a sovereign policy, as well as mutual support between the two states, had always existed, ever since their cooperation in the Non-Aligned Movement.
The Serbian minister also said that his hosts in Caracas were firmly committed to the development of relations with Serbia, and that “our friends in Venezuela wish to see Serbia as their door to the European continent.”
