Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said in Belgrade on Dec. 3 that Italy would continue to be among the biggest supporters of European Union enlargement and would support Serbia's bid to join the EU.

Meloni said Belgrade was employing a "constructive approach" in the dialogue with Pristina, adding that Italy was working for the fulfillment of all obligations undertaken by the two sides.

"It is important to Italy that the Western Balkans join the European family. Italy will stand by Serbia on its road to Europe," Meloni told a news conference after talks with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic. Italy stands for EU enlargement or, as Meloni said, the reunification of Europe.

She stressed the importance of Italian-Serbian ties and voiced the conviction that they could still be developed. All the work done together by the two countries shows the strategic importance that Italy attaches to Serbia, the Italian prime minister said, recalling a business forum, inter-governmental dialogue and successful trade.
