The Humanitarian Law Center (HLC) said on Oct. 25 that the Serbian Ministry of Defense "by promoting and financing books and forums at which those convicted of the most severe crimes speak, openly mocks the victims of the crimes."

The Ministry thereby "demonstrates a clear devotion to the policy that led to numerous crimes in the former Yugoslavia, but also denies the facts ascertained before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY)," the HLC stated.

The occasion is that this year, the same as last year, the Defense Media Center - the Defense Ministry's publishing center - at the International Belgrade Book Fair promotes books by Nebojsa Pavkovic and will hold a forum on the NATO intervention at which, besides retired Yugoslav army, i.e. Serbian army generals Bozidar Delic and Ljubisa Dikovic, convicted war criminals Vladimir Lazarevic and Vinko Pandurevic will also speak, says the HLC.

The HLC called on Serbia's institutions to stop "the promotion and rehabilitation of convicted war criminals and opt for a policy that accepts the facts determined in court and acknowledges the suffering of the victims and members of their families."
