Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stated on Feb. 5 that Serbia's policy towards the crisis in Montenegro would be intelligent, responsible and wise, and that the Serbs there would be provided with every kind of support, so that nobody could think that they could "abolish their sacred sites", silently or otherwise.

"But that policy must not be arrogant or violent. We must make it clear to everyone that we respect the state of Montenegro and any other in the region, but that we will find ways to protect the interests of our people, financially, legally and politically," Vucic stated in his replies to the people's questions via Facebook.

He said that he was monitoring carefully, "with concern and trepidation, everything that is taking place in Montenegro, with hopes that everything will end peacefully and that churches and monasteries will remain where they are and belong to whom they always have – the Serbian Orthodox Church."

Vucic said that Montenegrin representatives recently made serious accusations against Sebria in Brussels, i.e. claimed that Serbia wanted to provoke a crisis in that country, despite the fact that the people who have been protesting in several Montenegrin cities did not come from Serbia, but had lived there for centuries and only wanted to protect their holy sites.
