Football and basketball clubs Partizan and Crvena Zvezda (Red Star) owed EUR25 million combined in unpaid taxes, Finance Minister Sinisa Mali said on June 14.
“Since 2012 until today, Red Star Football Club has received EUR63.4 million from the state and the deal with its main sponsor, Russian energy giant Gazprom, while Partizan Football Club has received EUR14 million. Also, Red Star FC owes RSD859.7 million and Partizan RSD1.29 billion in unpaid taxes,” Mali told TV Pink.
Mali added that in ten years, Red Star Basketball Club had received EUR26 million from the state, while Partizan Basketball Club had been given EUR24.4 million from the state and its sponsorship deal with oil and gas company NIS. Red Star owes RSD96.6 million and Partizan RSD649.7 in unpaid taxes, according to the finance minister.
“It totals EUR7 million in debt only of these two basketball clubs,” Mali said, adding that the Finance Ministry had done a detailed analysis of business operations of football and basketball clubs.
“This is a decade-long problem. The problem is that it has become a habit to owe to the state as much as you want, while in parallel feel free to ask assistance from the state whenever necessary,” Mali stressed.
