World Health Organization Serbian office chief Marijan Ivanusa said on July 22 that the health authorities expected 90 percent of coronavirus infections in Europe before the end of August to be with the virus's delta strain.
"All of the countries in the region, with the most intense downturns in their epidemiological situations have the delta strain and expectations are that 90 percent of all infections in Europe will be with the delta strain by the end of August," Ivanusa told Serbian state TV.
Speaking on the epidemiological situation in Serbia, Ivanusa said that the authorities expected the epidemiological situation to worsen with each week and that wearing masks, social distancing and vaccination were important.
"In August people will begin returning to work from their annual vacations and the weather will get worse in September meaning that will we will spend more time inside. We can expect a new wave - which is beginning because we are seeing a deterioration [of the situation] - how this will turn out depends on how we behave," Ivanusa stressed.
