Ukraine’s ambassador in Belgrade, Volodymyr Tolkach, cautioned on Dec. 19 that by telling lies about the Minsk agreements signed by Russia and Ukraine and comparing it with the Brussels agreements reached during the EU-mediated dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, Moscow was trying to spark a conflict in the Balkans, too, primarily to break the unity of Europe.

In a statement delivered to the media, the ambassador urged Belgrade again to join the European sanctions against Moscow.

Tolkach said that “the lie that Ukraine and the West had tricked Russia with the Minsk agreement, against the backdrop of mass murders and missile attacks, appears pathetic and cynical.”

“What’s very dangerous for the Western Balkans is that the representative of a terrorist state in Belgrade is not only trying to lie about the Minsk agreements, which Russia has never honoured, and has finally destroyed them with a new wave of comprehensive aggression against Ukraine, but also to draw a parallel between the documents and the Brussel agreement. After a failure on the Ukrainian front, where it launched a genocide of Ukrainian civilians, Moscow is trying to spark a conflict in the Balkans,” the Ukrainian ambassador has warned.

The diplomat underlined that “it’s very important to prevent such a scenario,” adding that “it demands the attention and caution of the democratic world, and particular responsibility of Belgrade and Pristina.”
